Every other American is checking in at Standing Rock in Facebook right now to show support (no, that will not confuse police, it's a hoax) for the ND Pipeline Protest there.



It reminds me of people changing their profile picture to show a filter with the colors of the French flag after the Paris attacks last year

To each their own but both of these trends are so pointless. By checking in at Standing Rock on Facebook you're not doing anyone a favor People should truly get informed about what is happening there instead. It's a 30 second action to give people some kind of ephemeral illusion that they are doing something good (they are not).

Same for the French flag filter. I didn't change my profile pic but I did comment on that. The filter felt insensitive later when other tragedies happened and there were no options to change your profile picture to the flags of those countries. Haiti just went through a terrible natural disaster and the Haitian flag was nowhere to be seen

The French flag thing was nice. I don't use Facebook, but I did it on my Twitter and so did lots of other people. The only thing that bothered me was how people kept the flag on their profile pic weeks after the attack happened.

I don't use Facebook that much, so no, but I'm surprised there's not more on ATRL about Standing Rock.

There seem to be plenty of threads complaining about people wearing Native American headdress, but almost nothing mentioned about the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.

Police in riot gear, armoured vehicles, mass arrests of peaceful protesters, tear gas, pepper spray and I never saw a mention on ATRL until I saw this thread.

No but I had that marriage equality equals sign overlay.

Someone in my dorm at the time changed his to ≠ in response to the trend
