Also, As far as genre, the mainstream was SO much more diverse then in comparison to now. There was everything from to grunge, punk, singer songwriter, R&B, ballads, pure pop, the golden years of hip-hop/rap all charting at the same time. Nowadays Top 40 is either EDM or Trap/Rap. There's such a lack of different sounds in today's mainstream music..

Nowadays, it's actually harder to find a current artists on pop radio that can sing as opposed to sounding drastically different (and worse) live. And to top it off, they can't really dance or write very good songs either. Due to YouTube and streaming in general, consumers can access songs that came out years ago, and because of the easy accessibility, there's actually a huge portion of Generation Z that hates Generation Z's music.

The labels this decade have been picking really untalented people to promote that usually end up having one moderate hit and then flopping into oblivion, so I'd say that music and the music industry in general of today in fact, is actually worse.
