It affects radio a lot cause radio stations play holiday songs + the year end countdowns start & that takes a lot of spins that regularly would go to brand new radio songs or current hits.

But if a song is already a hit it won't matter tbh.

They all went Top 20 with literally zero promo of any sort whatsoever.
Too Good and Controlla literally became singles from demand and reached T20.

But like, won't radio just put them back on rotation after the 'freeze'? Are there cases of the 'freeze' actually killing songs that were growing before the freeze?

It held on quit well. Its peak may seem low but its US sales were/are decent.

The freeze used to be a lot worse. Most radio stations would just shut down for the holidays and keep the same rotations for weeks. These days there is still plenty of movement before and after new year's.
