Lol, what does that even mean. Many songs have an unusual structure and end up being successful. If anything Partition is the song with an atypical structure yet urban radio loved it. The only issue with Blow was the racy lyrics. Otherwise it's catchy, easy to bop along to and filled with memorable quotes. Not to mention that the video is actually good. It definitely could have been a hit
And Mine sounds like a typical PBRnB that urban radio would push with an edited, shorter version. It's the only album track that actually charted

Mine definitely would've been a top 10 or 15 hit at least.. I'm still pressed at the botched releases of Flawless (remix), 7/11 and Formation...
Especially 7/11, it still makes me " " lmao

If flawless can hit #1 urban radio, then so others.
especially mine which was more hit sound + drake.
as long as she has hit in urban/rhythmic radio, it's all good.
mine to urban, rocket and superpower to urban ac.
I'm 50/50 on blow tho. it's catchy but somehow in subtle way.

beyonce's self sabotage single history
1. partition vs pretty hurts pop radio
partition hit #1 urban and was about to crossover to pop radio and columbia was promoting it.
then suddenly she upload pretty hurts video for time magazine and announce it's new pop radio single.
columbia didn't give up, they promote both song to pop radio lol but eventually canceled partition.
pretty hurts got no buzz and they released it to urban/rhythmic first and still no buzz, pop radio release canceled.
2. no more pop radio
so... columbia stopped pushing single to pop radio after that. with no support at all from beyonce, they couldn't do anything. Beyonce era only had 1 real pop single, XO.
(Drunk in love was natural cross over with no radio add or promotion)
3. Flawless, you can hear it on radio but you can't buy.
she released Flawless remix randomly on 'soundcloud' which is not included in billboard.
and she didn't release it for sale, no itunes, no amazon. and no streaming. nobody could buy it.
only way to listen to the song was.. illegal download or radio.
as it had no sales, streaming but only airplay point, it peaked #82 at the time.
the song went available for sale 3 month later with platinum edition release.and enter the hot 100, peak #41
4. 7/11 official video, no count for billboard
beyonce again randomly released the video on her own channel, no vevo.
as the song was not registered on youtube music database.
they couldn't count its views, so first 3 days' 20m view couldn't counted for billboard.
5. get in Formation, but how?
Formation was unlisted = no report to billboard, it had no sale release.
tidal only streaming. and free download on tidal without sigh up for almost 3 month
it wasn't even officially release to radio. it was just (hided) free, limited single.

Can we stop complaining about missed opportunities?
Just be grateful we got a great album and tour!
Btw Hold Up is creeping into my trinity......

Formation would've been her sixth #1 single. She tried so hard to make it flop, but it would've been such a smart business move for her to allow it to slay. Imagine what its longevity would've been, especially since it debuted in the top 10 after being available for free for months.
Also it could've shined a larger light on Lemonade's HBO promo and given Lemonade even higher first week sales + given the Formation WT more demand (especially for the 2nd American leg tbh)

After this weekend, I've finally come up with a definitive ranking of Bey's albums:
BEYONCE > 4 > Lemonade > B'Day > Dangerously In Love > I Am... Sasha Fierce
Lemonade was my #1 but after listening to Lemonade and BEYONCE, I realized that the songs on Lemonade already seem a bit dated / stale to me. It may be because I overplayed them, but I did the same with BEYONCE's songs and they still knock for me! Also, BEYONCE has NO fillers while LEMONADE has Forward and Love Drought.

Standing on the Sun is CRIMINALLY underrated that it should be illegal!

funny that 6 Inch got into it before i did lol
i thought i'd made peace with her hit aversion after the Partition to Mine to Pretty Hurts (THE ****ING EASIEST HIT OUT OF ALL THREE) mess and let's not even mention Flawless or 7/11... anyway I was scrolling on FB and came across this Hold Up video and as is the case with every couple listens, the chorus punched me and i thought, "damn, this sounds like it could have been every ****ing where this summer*..."
of course this bitch decided to pass that up. i was in london this summer and the radio was practically begging her to make the song a hit. i probably heard the song atleast 2-3 times whenever i was in the car (more than she deserves for her trash behavior). I kid you not, when she released the Sorry video but no Hold Up, i almost tossed all my albums in the trash.
/rant
who gives a **** about singles? if she doesn't i don't
*i think Hold Up may have one of her catchiest/best choruses ever. the instrumental just knocks, and the descending scale is oddly pleasing against such an upbeat and pleasant bg. what a ****ing waste

I agree, it's so good and should have been released as a promo single. My radio station played the H&M commercial audio when it was first released, saying it was her new single... But at the same time, they also played Ring the Alarm during the Bey-hydration, after a fan said it was her new single on Twitter.
I bopped to it in the shower the other day after digging back into my BEYONCE era playlist as well, and it was such a good flashback.
