There is no reason for Beyoncé to want/need to pass Madonna. Beyoncé is Beyoncé - someone this generation (and even the one before) respects and aspires to be. Will Beyoncé outsell Madonna? No, these are different times. Does Beyoncé have as much impact as Madonna? Most definitely.

Regardless of the sales climate, you have to admit that Beyonce hasn't been a strong album seller as of late. There are many women, not just Adele, who are moving more album units than Bey. If she can't even outsell many of her peers now, what makes you think she would be able to rival Madonna in a different time? The "sales climate" excuse doesn't really work here IMO.
local citizens will probably remember those hits but worldwide single ladies is only remembered as beyonce's hit. shes going to have to do more than that if she wants to top MJ or Madonna. I don't think any pop stars care to top a musical legend. Her fans constantly make such bold outrages statements just so they can boost their own self esteem.
Love how so many here toss the word "iconic" around so loosely and frequently. The "impact" and "iconicness" of Lemonade and its songs are relatively local. As sad as this might sound to you, Lemonade is not culturally relevant nor is it widely discussed for its message in most parts of the world. Beyonce will be more remembered for IASF than Lemonade. I know that doesn't speak favorably for the narrative you want people to eat up, but it's the way it is.

Beyonce has already surpassed Madonna by miles when it comes to respect, vocal ability, dancing and even looks, but that's it. Madonna has had much more success, impact and longevity.
