I remember the first time I saw a gay couple on TV, I didn't really think much of it. The furthest I attributed a negative to them was me being low-key kinda jealous of the gay couple in Christina's Beautiful.

And it wasn't until one night my mom read the Bible (well surprise surprise!! ) and she just so happened to read the story of Lot and Sodom & Gomorrah story to me (because all gays are just predatory rapists out to hunt down angels I suppose ), telling me that gays and lesbians are bad and won't go to heaven. Poor me back then, rereading the bible, trying to see if there was any loopholes....and being crushed every single time I came across Leviticus 18:22 or some next verse

What was your first time you were taught (or realized) that being LGBT was "wrong?"

I was never taught that.

I picked it up without noticing from family and classmates on elementary school making fun of gays or saying being gay was wrong.

I also had a civics teacher in like 8th grade who said gays were trying to be more feminine than women and that was wrong. He had a degree in chemistry but was somehow allowed to teach civics too

You'd think being raised in typical Christian fashion, I'd be told it was "wrong". Nope.

My family is super religious and it's always been brainwashed that being gay was wrong. My pastor was FUMING more humidifer when gay marriage was passed

Reading about Sodom and Gomorrah around 7 as a pastor's kid and being like "whew."

I don't quite remember. People just implied that, gays were a subject of humour.

I dont remember beimg taught that it was wrong from church, And i went to church 2 days a week as a kid. I got caught doing stuff with a girl in kindergarten and got in trouble for it. So thats when i learned i guess lol

I'm not exactly sure, but I remember being at the playground once at a Catholic school (I think during kindergarten) and my classmates were talking about how it was bad to be gay. That was the first time I was introduced to that word, and since then I was always taught that it was immoral.

I picked it up loads of places. I remember watching tv and anything lgbt related like 2 guys kissing or a guy dressing as a girl and vice versa was always seen as a joke or perverted. Church and catholic school would beat the 1 man 1 woman thing into your head. Even now they talk about the 'sanctity of marriage' being ruined or under attack with gay marriage. People at school would say "no homo" or "thats gay" for everything because being homo was bad. My family would see gay men in public and call them the f-word in our language or talk badly about gays at home (never to their face thankfully). My uncle was gay and it was a family secret for YEARS even after he died. In fact they hid the fact that he died from AIDS that he got from another man forever. Like until a few years ago I had no idea. They think the devil was punishing him for being gay.
