So I'm applying for jobs as I've recently just moved here and I was wondering if it's compulsory for big franchises like McDonald's to follow the minimum wage requirements? EG: In states like NY and Cali where min wage is 10 dollars, is it compulsory for these franchises to pay that? Or is there a fixed price these franchises pay irrespective of the minimum wage laws that differ in each state?

Depends on the company policy afaik. No matter what (barring service jobs) they need to pay the state minimum wage. For PA (me) that is $7.25. No jobs are allowed to pay below that for part time work, UNLESS, the majority of income is from tips.

Sidebar: if you're in the NorthEast area, find private companies to work for. I work for Wegmans part time, and they pay minimum wage for the NY rate, so despite living in PA, I make $10 hourly.

If the state/local minimum wage is higher than the federal wage, then you might get paid less if you're 18. It's referred to as a training wage and typically lasts for 90 days. Otherwise, yes, companies need to follow the minimum wage.

When I was 17 in Michigan I got paid 6.25 or 6.75 until I turned 18 when I worked at a fast food place, then it went up to 7.40. it may differ from state.

It is indeed, and usually it varies according to the cost of living of the area (rightfully so). In Cali and Seattle it's higher but life is more pricey there. Here in SC it's like, 7.25 per hour

California's minimum wage is $10, which is how much I make an hour at my cashier job at Six Flags. However, there are positions at Six Flags that pay a bit more. People that are park attendants (trash pick-up, clean up), get $10.50 an hour. If you're promoted to lead in your department, it's $10.25.
