She travelled from Iceland to Las Vegas hoping to win a crown — instead, she left empowered, with a legion of fans behind her.
Miss Iceland quit an international beauty pageant after being told to lose weight if she hoped for a chance to win.
“I decided to leave ... Miss Grand International doesn’t deserve my face, body, personality or heart,” Arna Yr Jonsdottir, wrote in a letter she shared on Instagram on Tuesday.
Addressed to the president of the Miss Grand International Organization, Nawat Itsaragrisil, the letter said she was quitting the Las Vegas contest.
“Your staff told me that I had to lose weight for the finals because I have to (sic) much fat on me and also to (sic) big shoulders,” wrote the 20-year-old model who has trained in gymnastics since she was 10 years old.
“I am a very strong woman, but sometimes my strength isn’t enough.”
The Miss Grand International’s website says its objective “is an end to all forms of violence and hostility . . . (and) to rid the world of conflict and focus our efforts on improving the quality of life for all humanity.”
