A New Jersey woman has given a harrowing account of the night she fell victim to a 'gang rape' during a college fraternity party on campus.
In a federal lawsuit filed in US District Court on Friday, the woman, whose identity is concealed, describes a horrific ordeal in which partygoers played 'rock-paper-scissors' to determine who would be first in sexually assaulting her.
Others also 'laughed hysterically' while filming the rapes, the woman's lawsuit alleges, according to The Bergen Record.
The plaintiff, who was 19 years of age at the time and who is identified in court papers as 'Jane Doe', alleges that on the night of November 14, 2014, she was raped while attending a 'Date Night'-themed party thrown by members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at a Ramapo College dorm in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Quote:
During the party, fraternity members allegedly provided alcohol to underage teens who were mostly female.
The frat members 'actively solicited, recruited, and persuaded random students outside of the apartment building to come to this party'.
'They were calling down to recruit guests,' the lawsuit alleges.
The alleged victim says that after she became intoxicated and passed out, a number of those at the party took turns raping her.
The lawsuit alleges that as she laid out on a bed, fraternity members played 'rock-paper-scissors' to 'determine who would get to sexually assault her'.
The lawsuit also alleges that while the assaults took place, others stood outside the door and did not intervene.
Quote:
'Incredibly, rather than helping, (the defendants) watched and celebrated the assaults,' the lawsuit states.
Jane Doe also alleges that after the assaults, she was moved 'without her shoes, underwear, and jacket' to another dorm across campus, where she was raped by others.
The lawsuit says that those present during the course of these events 'were falling-down laughing hysterically while also videotaping the sexual assault'.
Frats need to be ILLEGAL. Frat culture perpetuates misogyny and sexism and it promotes rape culture. And the media and the music industry are hailing frat boys.

Women hail frat boys as well. When girls at college choose a male to have sex with it's usually a frat boy. A lot of the boys more respectful of women don't have any sex at all during college.
Luckily it appears people filmed the rape. If they can get a hold of the footage then these guys will be able to be sent to prison.

Stop with this tired argument...it's just not true. While certainly there are bad eggs in the bunch, most fraternity men do more for sexual assault awareness than the average student. So bye with that mess.
OT: this is horrible, and the perpetrators need to be brought to justice...the bystanders are what really kill me here
Out of curiousity, if she passed out before the assaults, how is she aware of all the details, including them playing rock paper scissors? From the videos? If so, it really should be an open and shut case, unless there are some legal loopholes that would prevent the video from being shown in court, ie: in certain cases a defendant can claim the video was taken without their consent, so it won't be shown... idk
It blows my mind that this is a reoccurring thing. Just blows my mind that there are so many college aged men that have never been taught that rape is wrong like Christ.
Only entitled white males engage in this foolishness and colleges continue to enable it because of the money they get from Greek departments. Disgusting.
They're meant to be education/professional societies/groups for students in theory, but in the US it has become an exercise in machoism culture and often is more-so about college campus social life.
It's basically some system where male students (women apply to sororities) apply to become part of a "group" (they usually have benefits, as in most well-liked people are in these frats, they may have student athletes who are treated as special in American universities or most people from certain majors are in these things together and it's a source of networking) and they usually have to do things like hazing, which has been banned, and have a lot of toxic masculinity events where guys find ugly girls to bring to parties and the one with the "ugliest date" wins, games at frat parties where guys have to force the most girls to kiss them or let them touch their ass/boobs, they may keep a record of who in the frat has slept with the most women in that school year, etc.
It enables a lot of rape culture behavior (if you see someone sexually assault a women, your allegiance has to be to your "frat bro", not the woman) and in the south tons of them are KKK/racists and usually exclusively white (though they're not legally allowed to promote it as such despite being what it is).
Some of them have frat houses that act like dorms, where members of the frat can live, where they throw parties and much of their awful behavior takes place.
