Just because everyone had terrible expetations doesn't mean these numbers are any good.
Gaga being outsold by Ariana Grande (also didn't have a hit before the album release) is not "winning".
Not to mention all the promo Gaga had done over the past 3 years; Oscars (x2), Grammys, Superbowl (this year!), was on TV every week on AHS and so on... all that to repair her image and attract new fans and the whole campaign still failed.
Pure sales #s are obviously boosted by the Amazon discount. Would've been around 100k without it.
Joanne probably won't even go gold in sales, again, that's hardly "winning".
