There's not much to explain. Just give "I Love You Honeybear", "Holy ****", "I'm Writing a Novel", "Now I'm Learning to Love the War", or "Bored in the USA" a listen, they'll give you an impression of his worldview.
Or, for that matter, any of his work as J. Tillman.
The guy who wrote those songs is not singing lyrics like "Man, it wasn't that long ago we were all living in the jungle", "So why do we gotta fight over ideas?", and "The only prisons that exist are ones we put each other in" with a trace of the earnestness that Gaga clearly is.
I'm not trying to sound patronising, and maybe I'm not giving Gaga enough credit, but this seems like a miscommunication.
Can't knock Tillman's hustle though. A Lady Gaga
and Beyoncé record in the same year? Get money!
