The wa payola exists right now for radio and Spotify is basically label politics, where labels keep tastemakers, DJs and playlist makers in their good graces, but actual money isn't being handed over.

People literally using proxies to make false purchases (with money donated in bulk from a person's fans from another country) is just.. something else as far as desperate goes and embarrassing.

Haven't you heard of fanbases organising the 'download weeks/days'? Just google it, and you'll see that even major popstars have fans who do this.

The difference is that in one case the fans are helping an established artist and here a relative newcomer.

but this is different. this is literally fans from the other side of the planet gaming the system via VPNs, not some online fans FROM THE ACTUAL COUNTRY doing chart attacks on certain days/weeks
