Since the other thread took this completely out of context and misquoted her, I thought I'd make a thread with the real quote.

She was talking about the song Angel Down with Zane Lowe, and she mentioned that it was inspired by Trayvon Martin's shooting. She said that in that moment, when things like that were going on in the world, it felt wrong for her to write a song about twerking.

She also mentioned that she's done those records, she LOVES those records and she will be singing them until she's 90. She said there's a lot of fun songs on this new album. But at that moment in time, with the platform she has, she felt it important to speak up and write about an important issue, and it shouldn't be ignored.

I understand what she's trying to say (I actually had no idea she was outspoken about BLM until this and previous tweets -- it's a nice surprise) but you can sing about twerking and yet use your platform to speak about equal rights. It seems like she's giving me the vibe of someone listening to music and saying, 'wow, I don't get how this person can sing about dancing in a club when there are people dying.'

I don't think she meant it as a big general statement though, she has songs like Dancin' In Circles on the album and mentioned she will be singing her "twerking" songs until she dies. She just meant for her in that moment, she felt like she needed to write about something meaningful, and she feels like she was given a voice and a platform and she should use it for good.
