Not surprising. BUT, 95% of the rats I see are on the subway tracks, so who cares? I've only seen a single rat running around in the streets and it was just rummaging through some garbage in a shady Brooklyn neighborhood.

I've seen a rat in Chicago once, it ran on my right foot. The way I jumped and screamed
New York tho. I've seen them in the subways several times.
Surprised Chicago is #1 honestly. The city is cleaner than NYC and the trains are usually not visibly dirty. When I'm in NYC, I feel like taking a shower after every train ride and I can't with people who walk in sandals in NYC.
