I'm not sure it was flawed. It seemed to work after the DNC convention when she needed GOP votes to compensate for the lack of enthusiasm of her base. But then the Clinton Foundation, emails, FBI stuff kept getting media coverage happened and made her already lukewarm trustworthiness numbers go even lower. As a result of that, RNC voters are buying the whole "checks and balances" argument.
But
now, DEM voters
are more motivated than GOP voters so they (Obama and Hillary) are changing tactics and are trying to stress how importants it is for DEMS to vote blue.
PLUS: Dems can now say to GOP'ers.. We gave you the chance to dump Trump back in the summer. You refused to do so. You own him now. That could come in handy not only in this election but in 2018, 2020 etc.
