Should the f-word have been censored in Same Love?
Lyrics in case you don't remember:
Quote:
A culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other '******s' behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
And gay is synonymous with the lesser
A lot of (almost all) radio stations bleeped out the f-word when this song was played, mainly because that's the edit that was given to radio. (The word is also censored on the clean version of the album.) But doesn't that kind of... miss the point?
They censor the N word, why would this be different?
While the n word is obviously worse, they still have a history of hate behind both words. I see why it was censored but I do agree with your point.
That's a good point, but most songs that use the n-word don't condemn it immediately afterward. Nor do they use it to make a point. Plus the way it's used in rap songs, tends to make white people think they can say it too.
