"I think everyone's criticisms of Girls were totally valid," she said, before adding that she wanted to "write from a place of accuracy and passion and understanding," which would not be from the lens of a woman of color.
She also went on to praise Issa Rae's new HBO show, Insecure, for representing the Black female community, saying, "It doesn't need to be my voice telling the story of a Black woman's New York experience. It needs to be Issa getting to go deep and go personal about what it feels like to be a young Black woman dating in Los Angeles right now."
Ending her sentiment, she made this bold statement: "Looking back, I never want to see another poster that's four white girls."
She's still trash though at the end of the day. Girls is the best thing she's ever contributed to society tbh and I would rather her write about what she as a white woman knows, than to try to write a stereotypical minority character into the show just for the hell of it, with no clear direction.
So many great episodes: the wedding episode + that episode who focused on Marnie and her old boyfriend Charlie (my fave of the show ) + the episode where Hannah discovers that Jessa and Adam are ****in on the low (heartbreaking) + the whole storyline of Shosh being homesick in Tokyo.
+ the focus on Elijah's gay love life (finally!!!) + queen Jenny Slate's cameo ect ...
Rather than begging white folks for inclusion, I wish it was easier for black artists to create their own for their audience. It's easier said than done, unfortunately. I really don't expect any white woman to care about or showcase POC on her show. That's not the world she lives in.
I understand but I heard there's not even any black peoples in the background. Is that true
It's not possible , the show is shot on location (in New York itself) like all of HBO's shows, so there's plenty of different ethnicities walking around in all the episodes.
Season 5 for me was the best one yet.... High hopes for it to go out on a high come Season 6.
BUT having said that, I disagree with what she said. You don't have to be a black girl to write from a black girl's perspective. Go research. Watch what's being represented in the media. Talk to people. LIKE Is she NOT friends with anybody of colour personally???

I know she's best friends with Ashley Ford, but I truly don't think she had any before she became famous
I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment you need be in the same situation as that character to write things from their POV. Mike Schur white and creates amazing POC characters. Even though I'm not a big fan of Lena as a person she is a talented writer and Girls is a good show.
