we're talking about LEAD roles, the ones that are not villians, get the girls, doesn't know kungfu and not a nerd.

well I originally thought that they would racebend iron fist in the live action series, but wouldn't that be a little bit... stereotypical? Idk, asian man doing matrial arts doesn't seem very original to me plus Danny has always been a white, blue eyed white man with blonde hair in the comics.
I know they chose the "safe way" and went with the obvious choice, and I'm sure Finn will do a great job, but yeah.. I feel like they kinda missed an oportunity here (no matter how "stereotypical" that role would've been)

There's no white savior trope here. Iron Fist story is about him coming back to reclaim his place and his father business, and takes place in NY. Not him saving a village ir something, at least do your research so your can have an educated opinion

well I read your post indeed and my point is that you basically stated 2 actors and they all belong to the 1% of Asian leads in Hollywood.

When you basically can name ALL the Asian leads TV shows in Holywood in under 10 seconds is not the achievement, it's the problem.

Hollywood won't cast Asians in lead roles because their market research tells them that outside of specialty Asian-set films like Hero and Crouching Tiger, audiences in North America, Europe, Latin America wouldn't find them as relatable and wouldn't be as strong a draw as white actors.

Meanwhile in movies like Ghost in the Shell, an Asian main character is played by a white woman.

So... Asians are 5.6% of the American population and comprise 5% of speaking roles. There's a lag in leading roles, but not in overall representation.

Well overall representation also includes how Asians are potrayed in the media. This is usually tied to a stereotypical role however.
