There's this guy I met through one of my friends on League of Legends. We started talking in game initially and overnight we started talking over snapchat and through call. I've known relatively a lot about him and I'm worried about the things he told me.
When we first started a call, I asked him, "wyd?"
He said he's going to the washroom to smoke. I asked him where he gets his weed, assuming he smoked marijuana and he replies, "I'm not smoking weed, I'm smoking a cigarette
Mind you he is nineteen and has been smoking for about a year now. Being suprised, I started asking him about how he got into cigarettes and stuff and he tells me. I'm not a person that harshly judges someone based off of things like this since it's his body he can do whatever he wants. About a month after that call(so in between we've been just texting and I found out that he was bi curious but he could never be seen in public with a guy(internalized homophobia? idk.) we started another call. He came back from a bar with his figure skating club and he went to go take a smoke in his room. He tells me about how when he was a kid, his dad was smoking and he wanted him to stop so he did, but when he grew up, he started to smoke. I tell him that I've experienced an almost exact same situation with my dad when I was 7/8 too with my dad. I told him the story when my dad was smoking in the balcony one afternoon and he started coughing really loud. I said to my dad plenty of times before that I didn't like when smoked and he promised me that he would stop, so when he was coughing, it was expected and I went back to the tv since he always coughs. However, my dad kept coughing for another good 2 minutes so I went to the balcony and saw him coughing blood. I cried and ran to him to give him a hug to tell him to stop smoking. While I was telling this story to the guy I like, I started choking and I felt like tearing up. I was hoping that if I told this story to him he could maybe try to stop smoking since it's bad for your health and it would kill me if I'd see any of the people I care about face the health risks. When I finished the story, he went online to tell me that after 15 years, the body goes back to normal once you finished your last smoke.
what should i do ATRL? He's from Vancouver and I'm from SF so it's not like I can go over his house and convince him to stop. I care about him so much, and yeah I realize it's over the internet but idk.

Your story is really sad about seeing your dad cough blood I see why you're so passionate about this but really, if that story and the fact that he didn't like his dad smoking during his childhood won't stop him from smoking then I don't know what will. It's good you're trying but you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. If you really can't handle smokers then just leave

And finally, let me point out that at this young age, it's hard to make a smoker stop. Smokers know they're harming themselves but they don't care. They're just stupid and they smell bad - I once read about someone comparing smoking to flatulence, and I cannot disagree. Nothing grosses me out more than cigarette smoke.

He's three years older than me and I learned so much about him. His life seems so dry, since he has no motivation to do anything in the future. It's as if he's just waiting for the day to die so he has to make the most of his life doing toxic things when he has so much to live for

I consider him as a friend and I don't want to see friends tear themselves down like this.
I even struggle with myself sometimes because I never ever felt the feeling of love before. I want someone who can make me feel great about myself because I've been struggling with so much **** when I was a child(from low motivational issues, being unhealthily fat for the rest of my childhood until this year, discovering my sexuality, etc)
