I enjoyed power rangers growing up but as an adult I will literally cringe as some of the "campiness" of the series episodes.
The serious tone will help the gp take the franchise seriously and not just think of it as a childrens's franchise. That being said i'm sure there will be some comedic relief in the movie.
So far the movie is perfectly targeting it's target audience (young adults) and not completely alienating it's child fanbase which will make the movie even more money.
It's obvious that this movie will be completely separate from past franchise movies/series. You will be disappointed if you think otherwise.
