They'll modernise themselves, move to the left/centre, adapt to a changing political environment, as most political parties do. With the left becoming increasingly sanctimonious, complacent, and irrational, the Republicans have a huge opportunity (once Trump has been consigned to history) to seize the centre ground of rationality.
If anything the Trump disaster will jolt them out of their ridiculousness.
They have a majority in the house and senate, they have more governorship's than Democrats. If they won the White House they could do anything they wanted. Democrats haven't been able to enact their agenda for years now.

They only have power because they take advantage of low voter turnout from democrats in midterms and enact voting laws to restrict voter turnout. Plus they've literally cheated by gerrymandering districts.
Also some governors won because of vote splitting from third party candidates, etc. Look at Maine.

For starters, the Libertarian party can't be dismissed if Johnson is really expected to land 5+ percent of the popular vote, and the Green party has attracted a lot of attention (although it hasn't translated into much support).
I can also imagine several different factions rising from the ashes of the Republican party; the religious core (Evangelicals who will continue opposing abortion, gay rights, etc), the alt-right (racist scum), the "new right" (who will move left on some issues to try to broaden appeal), the tea party, etc.
It would be quite interesting to see them change from two-party system and winners take all to 5+ parties in Congress and having to form coalitions between 2 or 3 parties.

The Republicans will have a chance if they drop the evangelical social policies that are wildly unpopular with young people. If they do that they can seize the political centre from the dems, who are definitely headed left after Hillary.

There is always a market for the racist populists. Up to 25% votes in a multi-party system.
However the smarter populists can undercut their votes by not having the sharp edges that exclude the racist populists from forming coalition with mainstream parties. Voters do realise that the populist who can be in power and influence policies is better than the one always sidelined.
The Republican Party as it was known before 2015 is, yes. Come 2019, there will still be an obvious split - those who identify with the alt-right vs those who are "classic" republicans. This will likely split the decision again between a candidate like Trump (if not him vs. someone like Rubio, with a more progressive viewpoint). Same goes for the democratic party, too, i.e. someone like Bernie vs. a "classic" democrat.
