And the games were always easy. Playing through yellow recently made me realize that. I was super underleveled but i didn't really have problems

I think a big difference between...say Generation 1 and Generation 6 is that there's a sense of team-building and covering weaknesses that needs to happen. You could also plow through the game with your over-leveled starter, I suppose. It is actually fairly viable in Gen 6 to swap around 8 or so unevolved Pokemon without any grinding all the way to the E4 and win with little problem.
Yeah, you can turn off the Exp. Share, but...that's what I mean. You have to limit yourself if you want a challenge. Purposely not using a feature that was intended for use just to get a bit of a challenge, in my opinion, is a bit sad.
That's why I really wish that they would introduce the ability to choose difficulty ratings. I think if they made it so even with having the Exp. Share on, you weren't going to cruise on by without any form of thought, it'd be nice...though I don't see that happening.
I could also just be upset for no reason. I still don't see why anyone would want to play the main series Pokemon games without any alterations or self-imposed challenges unless it was a first-time playthrough or you're a bit new to gaming in general.
