Well, I loved all 7 official books and I was kind of hestating to read the "Cursed Child". It all sounded like a cash grab and isn't even written by J.K.Rowling (even though she co-wrote it)

However, lately the thing came to my attention again (cos the book probably got translated to my language finally) and all media here called it "8th book" and a continuation & my sister was making a huge deal out of it and told me she read it and if I wanted to read it too and stuff...

So I gave it a try and read it today. I must say it is cool, but all the time travelling mess and the new characters...and the fact that it all happened without a good reason...I mean going back in time to save Cedric Diggory? ....tbh, it feels like some fan-made tale I swear I read a few years ago on the internet. The whole story was just so weird, like the Delphini appearing out of nowhere...

So then I read official harrypotter wikia webpage and seems like the articles there incorporated the tale as official and the stuff is in the pages.

So IDK should I take it as 8th official book, or as a spin-off or something? I am confused

Nope, especially since some things go against certain 'rules' or things said in the original 7 books. It's a cute story, but I feel Rowling herself would have written an actual epic story/book

I see it as an extension to the universe. I like the fact that we got to know the kids a bit better. Scorpius is bae.

At the same time, it's slightly messy. So not an 8th story, just an extension. Not a book, but a play. Once I kept these in mind, I was pleased with it.

No I like to pretend its just a cute lil fanfiction I read. It had very few redeeming qualities to me tbh.

Only the things I liked about the story. (Scorpius, Draco/Harry relationship...)

Yes it's bit of a hot mess at times & sort of can read like fan fiction, but you just have to take it for what it is and not pay too much attention to the silliness or continuity issues. Besides the show is apparently a great deal better, and the script form doesn't do it justice at all.

I think yeah, it has to be viewed as an extension, not necessarily the '8th book' but a form of further exploration into Harry's world/story.

No, it's some fan fiction screenplay. Jo didn't even write it. She was just consultor and her name shoudn't even be on the cover while it's bigger than actual writers name, pretty tragic just like this screenplay itself.
