My favorite OGH lie of all time is that Born This Way, which went #1 in every major country in the world except the UK (where it went #3 from a day of sales), and spent six weeks at #1 in the US, was only liked by gay people
I know the era overall was way bigger than ARTPOP, but I was talking about album sales alone (like I already said)...
how is selling 1.7M in your mainland comparable to selling 700k
how is almost doubling your debut week sales similar to declining back more than 60% from the past era
Madonna, Britney and Gaga have more gays stans for sure, but more female fans in general. Minobody is the only one who has gay stans and fans since she's a forgotten gay fad.
In the United States, "Just Dance" was initially a club-hit after its release, peaking at number two on both the Hot Dance Airplay and Hot Dance Club Play charts during the summer of 2008.[23] The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 76 on August 16, 2008.
Quote:
Following the release of Born This Way on May 23, 2011, "Marry the Night" debuted at number 57 on the United States Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart with sales of 35,000 digital downloads, allowing it to enter the Billboard Hot 100 at number 79.[40][41] The song has peaked at number 29 on the chart (December 24th, 2011),[43] becoming Gaga's first radio-promoted single not to reach the top ten and ending her streak of eleven consecutive top ten hits.[46]
Gaga, Britney, and Madonna all likely have more female fans than gays. You can't reach the level of success/peaks they had without having a fan base that's more than just gays. Kylie tho..yes!
At Britney's peak she had mostly female fans, yes.
No. The core, hardcore, ride or die, will be with her until she's 65 fans are mostly gay, sure. But the majority of their audience, most of the people who will buy tickets, copies of the album, merch, etc, are straight women. Listening statistics from streaming services have shown that men as a whole only listen to about 3% female artists. Women overwhelmingly are the audience for female artists, and you can tell that Britney and Gaga try to cater to them. "Work Bitch" is basically a straight woman's approximation of a gay club anthem. She gets to feel fierce, but at the end of the day the lyrics are "look hot in a bikini", not "look hot in a speedo". Same with Gaga now, she's trying to tap into the huge audience of women who enjoy the type of music she's making now from other artists.

*publicly
It's a true statement. It's why she turned out to be a Glee sized fad in the end

Yes, stans =/= fans. The people who bought Rebel Heart tickets and copies of the album were overwhelmingly women (and a lot brought their husbands/boyfriends along to the show of course, which is always the case with any female-oriented artist or film or whatever).
I think some gays here just don't want to admit that what they stan for is created for and catered to women. Gays, particularly the kind of gays that become pop stans, just tend to like music, films, TV shows, etc women like. At the end of the day we are NOT the priority for their teams.
U2 are LEGEND's beyond like most of our fave's scopes. Demi & Selena are NEVER doing it.
Doesn't matter how much they're on media or radio for acts like U2 because their huge amount of fans/casual fans are willing to search on their own.
This literally has nothing to do with what I said.
Never said U2 wasn't MILES above popular Pop artists of today.
The discussion was U2 has more success even today, but don't feel bigger than say, Selena Gomez because hits, cultural relevance today, and etc.
Let me put this into an obvious example:
Madonna is much more successful than Ariana today, because her massive tours.
Does Madonna FEEL bigger than Ariana Grande in 2016 though? Obviously not.
Ariana Grande has hits, a current name in media headlines, and a current top artist in today's Pop Culture.
Obviously Madonna is lightyears ahead and still gets even more success today. The point was that having more success doesn't necessarily mean someone feels bigger (the discussion was originally did LEMONADE feel bigger than 25, despite 25 obviously being more successful).
