Not to be mean, but you come across as ignorant...or to use a more colloquial phrase, a dumbass.
So you think a generation ago people still owned slaves... People couldn't even have slaves in the 1880's. Know your history before commenting on things, please and thanks.

Other countries get to somewhat protect themselves from the negative effects of globalization. Why shouldn't America protect the interests of its citizens as well.
The problem is the delivery of the message from Southerners is often obscured by their racism and their lack of education so they can take on the jobs of the 21st century. Why aren't Southerners voting for politicians who will help them out interests of the American people as a whole rather than big business the politicians themselves?

I generally think you are more of the reasonable posters generally, but you do know you have uneducated people everywhere, right? And just because someone is on the poor side, and doesn't have a college degree does not mean they are stupid, or racist.
I suppose then using your logic, then everybody that lives in an inner city ghetto is the same way, right?
A politician can't save anybody, and it's big business that gives people the jobs...not Washington DC. If business is booming, and the economy is strong...then companies will have the incentive to hire...that's how economics work. A lot of voters want a politician that is willing to let the system flourish like it is supposed to....that in turn helps small businesses because people hired by the big businesses have extra money to spend.

I live in the south. I wouldn't say people are ignorant. They know full well about the problems about minorities they literally just don't care.

Wow. Live in South. Have traveled around the world. Have lived from one coast to another. There are ignorant people everywhere. However the stigmatization of the South being generally less educated comes from history. Do some reading.

To generalize an entire region and millions of people is ignorant. I grew up in a small town in New Jersey and knew plenty of ‘ignorant’ people with outdated, backwards beliefs. It doesnt matter if youre from the north or south, it has more to do with your upbringing, if youre from a small farmtown, the suburbs or the city.

Because of the history of the southern US, there is more overt racism and bigotry there than other parts of the country. The south is also the poorest and least educated region of the US, which fosters a lot of ignorance.

Most people in the south are actually migrants from the north nowadays because of jobs

The same can be said about people in the North. Isn't Donald Trump from NYC?

On top of that, 110M people live in the south. 47M live in the Northeast. Why would you be so dumb as to compare a region with more than twice as many people?
And on top of that, people forget Washington, D.C., the nation's capital, is Southern.

The difference between the south and the North is what is brought up. People in Cali and people in NYC are just as racist as people here in Tennessee. The difference is that people in the North and West tend to have some type of superiority complex where they feel that they are somehow less ignorant/racist than they actually are in real life. Aka, in the South, if someone doesn't want to date someone of a different race they will just flat out say it. But I've straight up seen people on this forum who aren't from the South claim that it is a "preference" and that people should "would most likely be attracted to only their same race." Honestly, it is akin to the European's on this website ignoring the racism that occurs in their home countries while saying America is overtly racist. Basically it is a cop out to say that someone else is worse.
Key thing is, anyone who has traveled anywhere knows that you will find racist anywhere, people everywhere are just generally ignorant and uneducated. These generalizations are just dumb.
Also, the South has Abraham Lincoln. The North has Donald Trump.
As for political values, the South is conservative mainly because in most southerner's minds, if something is set you can find a way through it. However, when you change the rules something stupid will happen. They are overly religious because we like our sense of community and stability. Your word is your bond here. Aka, we don't want someone lying to us, filing bankruptcies alot, stealing. I live in downtown Nashville and I am still able to walk out of groceries stores (as a black male mind you) without having to pay for my food and tell the cashier when I will come back to pay.
As for welfare, a lot of southerners use it to game the system. They will admit to you that if you took it away they will make the money up somehow. However, we don't need to feel the need to work as hard as our northern counterparts. AKA a top law firm in NYC will pay a law school grad right out of school 160k for their first year. Trade off is that they work six days out of the week from 8am to 10pm to pay off those 250k in loans they got from Harvard. Then you have someone like me, working in a top law firm in Nashville for 120k first year out of law school, going in 9-4 with about an hour break every other day and I havent had to stay on a Saturday yet (which may change because I have a project coming up soon.) So would I rather be "ignorant" making 40k less in a climate with a better COL. Hell yeah. But that's how we think. So for a southerner they are legitimately thinking "I can have this job for 50k and have all the bills, or take this job for 34k, get all welfare benefits and receive a refund check next year." Its not like we don't have options, I just know so many people who aren't going to work themselves to death to have a little more spending money just to give it to the government and bills. If you take it away, they will take the better options.
Rant and break over.

There is a difference between being unable to afford or systematically unable to gain access to education vs having access to education and refusing it outright. However, you do make an interesting point.
Actually politicians can help people if people enable the politicians to better help the people.
The government is there to balance the interests of all of the people they serve for the greater good. Otherwise there is no point in having a government at all. The government exists for the benefit of the people it serves.
Businesses try to make as much money as they can with as little resources as they can (ie maximize profits). Therefore the business interest is not always aligned with the interests of the people.
I say this to mean that the government can and does have a role in helping people out if people let it. Many people have been fed the line that government is bad and don't really understand the full extent of the nuance that exists with such statements.
Reagan famously claimed the government was bad then raised taxes more times than any other president that came after him. Additionally he believed if you give businesses more benefits those benefits would trickle down to the general populace and that has proven to be categorically false when analyzing the data that exists. Wages haven't grown at all since Reagan took office for the general populace. Only the wealthiest of individuals have benefited from trickle down and hands off economics.
Again there is no incentive for a business to hire more people or pay employees more money without a business interest in doing so. There is also no interest in politicians helping actual people....who complain that government is bad by default.
Southern Conservatives believe the government is bad but I don't hear them saying the government is bad when an unarmed mentally ill african american is shot to death or an unarmed african american is trying to comply with police orders is shot to death or when an police officer unlawfully harasses african americans.
I don't hear Southern conservatives saying the government is bad when they take in more tax dollars than the put into the government. Nope. What I hear is Southern conservatives complaining about the very minuscule contributions they are making in real terms for the benefit of the country as a whole or even themselves as a whole.

I know that. That's what I'm saying. But less educated doesn't equate to more ignorant. Although all these damn states are red, except FL, so yeah...maybe they are.

People in the North are more racist than they even care to acknowledge...in many cases the racism/homophobia/sexism is worse particularly when you factor in the HUGE international population that has relatively little experience with people outside of their own backgrounds. The Northern and liberal states at least in theory are very accepting of women and minorities.
Despite the shortcomings of the Northern and Western liberal areas as it relates to diversity, that hasn't stopped the these places from passing liberal legislation that protects and works to address their shortcomings on race, gender and sexuality. They are at least trying to fix their own backyard. In the South no such thing exists. The South is actively passing legislation to make worse for women and minorities.
Even after you adjust for the cost of living I make far and away more money in NYC than I did in Dallas, TX. I didn't go to Harvard or take out 250k in loans. I don't work on Saturdays and I don't have any advanced degrees other than my Bachelors degree. The work I do not is not even related to the degree I've gotten. The work I do now was a hobby that turned into a career.
With that said, I believe the South has a lot of unlocked potential if they can ever get their act together politically. There is a reason Silicon Valley, Movies, Music is in California and Broadway, Finance, Media, Silicon Alley is in NY. It boils down to education and diversity.
