I want to learn German too and I started by doing the Duolingo course. I haven't finished because I'm trying to learn Catalan but I hope to visit Germany one day. Aside from studying you need to read in German, watch German dubbed movies and tv shows ( animated shows and movies first also movies you already know), and listen to music. Also manage your time and try and find motivation to learn some German. Good Luck

The greatest gift EVER for languages. It's a free mixture of Quizlet and Rosetta Stone made by polyglots. I've essentially become fluent in French from speaking with people in person and this website. This website also helped me (in three weeks) become conversational in Czech before I lived there for a month. EXTREMELY helpful.

Also, because it's a community website, there are HUNDREDS of courses for each language that go beyond the simple German 1, German 2, etc.

I am fluent in French and I only spent 4 months in France so I can tell you that

1) you do need to study vocab and grammar a lot! But make it fun. Take classes, read books, read articles, see videos, get Duolingo, find a penpal.

2)Spending time among people who speak the language will seal the deal! Immersing at the end of a lot of study is very helpful, especially for listening which I feel is harder than speaking.

I would like to know too since I'm very interested in learning Russian. If you'd like to practice speaking/typing the language, there's a cool app called HelloTalk. Basically, you pick your native language (English, I'm assuming) and the language you want to learn, and then it's supposed to work like a language exchange. I'm not sure how many German people would be on the app since their language education system is pretty good, but I've found plenty of Eastern Europeans who want to practice their English
