Yahoo let's US Gov Scan 500million Users Emails
MacRumors Reporting
Quote:
Yahoo secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers' incoming emails for specific information at the behest of U.S. intelligence authorities, according to people familiar with the matter.
Reuters spoke to three former Yahoo employees who revealed the existence of the custom code, apparently written in compliance with a classified U.S. government demand. The program scanned hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts for the NSA or FBI, said the former employees and a fourth person with knowledge of the events.

Why do people care tho? like?? always crying about privacy but then crying more when a terrorist attack happens.
I'm sorry, if the FBI, CIA, whoever wants to read my email, see my text, listen to my phone, i don't care ??? I have nothing to hide. If they want to see my nudes, and hear my phone sex and read my dirty text, go for it.
Stop it people, its not the end of the world.

Yikes.
Just because you have nothing to hide doesn't mean you should allow the government access to your entire digital life. It's an incredibly slippery slope.

Ummmm you'd be shocked at the stuff people can use against you later on. Secondly, why does the government want to read your email so badly?
Too much data is worse than too little data. They are too busy sifting through yours and my emails and not sifting through a terrorists emails as a result.

Not you singling out liberals when some opted for increase government surveillance in favor of counter-terrorism and some conservatives prefer privacy. This isn't a partisan issue.

Is there really anything that isn't spying on us. I bet Gmail and Outlook are in on it too. Emails aren't reliably secured at all.

That doesn't mean a damn thing. And if you're country is in the 5 Eyes or the European Union all that information gets shared.

King Yahoo! When will Hillary?
Just kidding. This is ********. Government should respect a person's privacy no matter what. If, and only if, they suspect some sort of bad behavior (planned terrorism, etc), Yahoo! and any other messenger should grant them access to the suspect's email ONLY. No one else. Not even people he talked to.

Because there is definitive and conclusive information showing that the government gathering this stuff doesn't actually help them prevent terrorism; they overwhelm themselves with info and then cherry pick to suit whatever agenda they have. There actually was, for example, enough communication tracked from the terrorists who planned 9/11, yet it was overlooked, not to mention that this info was obtained prior to our government granting itself immeasurable surveillance powers. Instead it's used to scapegoat whistleblowers and consolidate power - monitoring and then controlling the flow of communication and information is precursory to establishing fascism, actually.
Further, we get investigative reports about how the state misuses this power to spy on, for example, BLM activists - or, people fighting for equality. It's just like how the FBI sabotaged the black panthers and killed MLK. History repeats itself.
Instead of being a reactionary child, put on your critical thinking hat and do some Googling.

I think why people are mainly concerned is because as someone said above 'SLIPPERY SLOPE'
Lets not forget Watergate or J, Edgar Hoover. With the wrong government spying can be used to undermine the opposition and that could harm democracy.
