The digital era is killing music as a whole tbh. Sales wise, as well as anyone being able to become a "star" and get a hit too easily. With Katy, Gaga, or even Ke$ha, they still had that "untouchable" pop star aura to them. Nowadays, people scoring hits are like Alessia Cara, who try to interact and be relatable and personal to their fans- which isn't a bad thing but they take the star factor out of it.
To sum it up, basically. I miss 2007-2011
EDIT: We also don't have a Gaga right now. Yeah, she's releasing music and it's not the typical stuff, but what I mean is we don't have someone to be the thing she was in 2008. She brought a new wave of pop and made it interesting. Everyone hopped on it. People hopping on dancehall isn't the same for some reason. It feels impersonal. The girls in 08 knew how to captivate. I miss their star power tbh
