I know R&B has changed, but the ones that are artists like Trey Songz or R. Kelly are actually still keeping a fine line. Chris Brown would be named but he's becoming irrelevant, but I will say "Forever" is straight Pop except for the "1,2,3,4!" in the song, lol!

Not to mention that Pop is Popular Music in general now. When you have Lady Antebellum and Flo Rida (Country + Rap) meeting in the same field. That's what Pop is now!

Those artists are freakin POP! Taio and Jay Sean started R&B and are now doing Pop. Their songs have no R&B flavor. Their voices are NOT even pop! I know Jay Sean considers himself R&B and Pop now since he has found success in the US. Rihanna is straight up Pop. She started off with Island music then Pop. You can count on one hand how many R&B songs she actually did! Her voice is not soulful/R&B either!

If you wanna talk about R&B voices that are considered Pop because of the color of their skin would be Justin Timberlake (At least he gets played sometimes on multi-formats), P!nk (listen to "Can't Take Me Home"!), Christina Aguilera (almost her whole catalog is R&B)Kelly Clarkson (listen to the Thankful album!). These are artist who have the voices and have done the music!

One huge song? "Whenever, Wherever" & "Hips Don't Lie" were both huge. "La Tortura" was also a huge crossover hit into the American charts/radio.

Black skin color doesn't equal urban. I know you didn't say it, but I can't find any other reason seeing as "Down", "Do You Remember?", "Break Your Heart", etc. are pop songs.

i was gonna respond saying EXACTLY that but figured it was a lost cause..... how anybody can thinks "break your heart", "s.o.s" or "down" are R&b songs a in any sense is just scary......

one HUGE smash = HDL a couple of top 10 hits = WW and UYC on both pop radio and Hot 100. And La Tortura got played on pop radio but it peaked in the 20's on pop radio i think... it was a big crossover smash in Europe but not in the US.

"WW" was a huge smash on Pop radio as well. It reaching #6 on the Hot 100 is impressive for it's time. "La Tortura" is one of the most significant songs to move into American charts as a non-speaking song. I know it wasn't an actual major smash, but the point is it did amazing as the song it was.

But, yes none were as big as "HDL". But, they were all huge smashes in their own way. Be a bit more specific.

And I understand the support thing (Britney is my fav, so yeah) but I wasn't talking about that. The songs are still Pop. Man***** said they were not.

You mean a more mainstream one. i think give it up to me was great..it had a cheap art school vibe to it. the video needed to be mainstream .. the shiva thing and the abstract red arms where just too wierd for some..
