A man allegedly shot dead a 90-year-old woman because he was inspired after watching episodes of the zombie TV show The Walking Dead, prosecutors said.
Richard Jordan Tarver, of Bay, Arkansas, is accused of forcing his neighbor Lavinda Counce into the trunk of her car in July 2015 before shooting her in the back of the head in a corn field, police said.
Counce's daughter also found a black bag in the 90-year-old's home containing a hammer, hatchet, club, rope and washcloth that matched DNA from Tarver, investigators found.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Tarver, who faces murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, theft, and firearms charges, the Daily Beast reported.
On Thursday, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Grant DeProw told the Craighead County Circuit Court that binging on episodes of the Walking Dead led Tarver to kill Counce.
