But no human (at least in the developed world) needs to kill another animal to survive. We have countless other alternatives because we are dominant and civilised. Your argument doesn't really have any merit in a modern society because it's based on our instincts and needs from thousands of years ago. How many times have you relied on your said "instinct"?

It doesn't really make sense that they believe global vegetarianism would harm developing countries considering they have an over abundance of fruits and vegetables. Poor people can't afford expensive meat anyway so it wouldn't be harmful to anyone in reality. Vegetarianism is just the better lifestyle choice economically and health-wise in general.

we would probably use a lot less, if anything, since we would also have use of the crops used to feed livestock. i can guarantee you that the amount of crops that go into rearing a cow into adulthood would feed far more people than the cow itself.

A majority of the cows used for consumption are fed corn. The land isn't the issue, it's the amount of cows being eaten that's the issue. There's a bountiful amount of land, so much go unused especially in the US.
Honestly the health and ecological effects of cutting meat out of your diet is huge. Cutting meat out of my weekly diet has made me lose weight and feel better about myself plus it's made me more adventurous with food. I feel like it's something everyone should do.
This would be very strange. If animals were treated better, I would 100% be a carnivore. I'm only against eating meat in this society because of the poor way they are treated; I believe we need to eat meat and there is nothing wrong with that.
You know I've noticed that alot of the times when vegetarianism is discussed, at least on here, it's mostly about losing weight and staying in shape. But it has always been the moral side that has bothered me. Like if we consumed less meat, less animals would have to be killed, less lives would have ended. idk, it's just how I feel
This is close to my take on it as well. I do still eat meat, but dramatically less these days. There's a sort of mindset/culture around non-veggies where it's not a "real" meal without meat. I get the veggie option at dinner sometimes and I get comments like "but you're wasting you're money.."
most important is that we in the industrialised World heavily reduces our intake of meat and milk-Products, esp red meat. also that we enforce the livestock to only be eco-logical and near-produced as much as possible to reduce transports. that would make a huge diiference.
i havenīt bought cheap climate-destroying, anti-biotic stuffed meat (that mostly comes from South america i Think) in years, only from local farms. and the meat is so much better!
also iīm eating meat approx like 3 Days/week, and i promise, you feel much more healthy

We wouldn't need any more land, we'd just reuse cattle farming space for crops and get much more food that would feed people directly instead of using extra land to grow food for livestock.
I would probably rather not exist than never eat beef again.
