I use it so I can listen to music offline. It constantly ruins my library but that's just something I've accepted at this point. I'm not going to bother switching to Spotify when I've been committed to AM for so long and it has better exclusives.
Yeah. It originally destroyed my library, but the kinks have been worked out where everything works well with it. I like the fact that I can listen to music offline and just add many, many songs.

No. I use it with iCloud turned off. You can listen to albums and playlists, but you can't add albums, songs, or playlists to your library with it turned off.

I had a running playlist going of my favorite songs of 2016, the vast majority of which were AM songs, and when I tried to see if I could use it without iCloud Library, I lost the whole playlist Even when I re-enabled it.
I just deleted my library and just went full AM. I haven't had a problem with it removing my unreleased songs or demos or anything of the sort.
This is also an option, but I'm scared of someone pulling another Taylor Swift. Plus I spent probably $1,000 or more on my library. (I wouldn't be surprised if it were more than $3,000)

Dont do it .. it KILLED my music playlist .. I lost every unreleased random song .. and it killed me ... it changes everything to the generic album version .. its so bad!!!!

I don't know if google music would be the solution for you? you can upload up to 50,000 songs for free from your computer and listen on your device through the app. it does have a matching feature but if it matches the wrong version, you can right click the song and fix it.
I didn't have any problems. But the 3 month trial was a beta back then though.
It messed with my play counts though but I haven't used it since my trial ended. I don't need to pay for my music since I own so much already and my data plan needs to stay low. But Apple Music is nicer than Spotify
