Here you go Doves. The second half of the 5th place tie. This integrated sample of the legendary MISS Diana Ross’s Love Hangover shows that Monica can still sass it up to a guy. Latinazza comments, “This is how you sample Diana Ross. It is classy, fun, and perfectly produced.”
Monica can be sexy and classy at the same time, which is what I so miss in today’s music. KAK says, “Jazzy, smooth, funky and a true throwback. Monica served class.”
The First Night became Monica’s 2nd #1 single, and one of her biggest singles worldwide, even peaking in the top 10 in the UK.
4. Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)
Miss Thang
So sad to watch anyone’s debut go. But well deserved spot.
Often referred as the “period song”, Monica was about to show her hood personality. After being discovered by Dallas Austin and Clive Davis at the age of 11, Monica went straight in the studio to record her debut album, Miss Thang. The success would come in an instant when Don’t Take It Personal shot right up to the top of the R&B charts, and went #2 on the Hot 100 behind TLC’s Waterfalls at the age of 14. This would be the first of many achievements for the R&B star.
Buyonce1814 - “It took me a while to figure out this song was about girls on their periods. 12 years in fact”
Kool_Aid_King – “The period song. Definitely one of my favorite Monica songs. A great first song too. Once upon a time I liked this song more than Back & Forth and I Wanna Be Down.” (Still will put that over you for the rest of your life. And dabunique, it’s partially my fault for this change.)
Latinazza – “a great debut -- I love the samples that they used” (Back Seat of My Jeep and Bring the Noise)
I just wanna be all alone when you think I treat you wrong
And I'm fine with it. I was rooting for Everything To Me, Street Symphony, The First Night and Why I Love You So Much and none of them made it, so I can settle for anything now that Just One Of Dem Cramps is out
