It all depends on what you do with your phone. A lot of people I see have their brightness up all the way up [I personally can't stand it]. You can see what takes up battery too. I don't know how to do it on iphones

It makes the battery work harder and it's just annoying at times when you have to play a game a certain way and good lord you have a small screen, you have to find an angle.
Background App refreshes (which you can turn off in settings) is a big one for reducing battery and should be turned off always. Brightness too (it also makes your phone HOT). Overcharging it ruins your battery too.
I use my phone way too much though, so I guess it's okay considering my usage
