Although modern Irish citizens are not in any way 'oppressed' - indeed, they enjoy a higher GDP than their British neighbours - historically they were one of the most abused minorities ever.
If you know a first thing about European history you'd know that.
After all, the people murdered in the concentration camps were white too. If there are no visible minorities, people will just scapegoat minorities within their own race.
Irish people were oppressed though, they were enslaved
Granted, Irish people ARE white and don't have to deal with oppression or prejudice like African-Americans still do.
OT: I have family in Ireland and I sure as hell wish I had subtitles available when talking to them
Americans subtitle quite a lot of people with accents I notice, which is funny considering this country is supposed to be such a melting pot.
How is it funny? With so many people speaking different types of English, how are we all supposed to understand each other verbally? That's what subtitles are for.
