K-pop is very high cost. Imagine housing 100 trainees and only one group of 5 members makes it big. You have an entire company living off of some 2M single sales and 100k album sales a year. The company has to maintain control and try to make as high a profit as possible (usually at the cost of endless touring and promotions) to keep themselves afloat.
The most impressive part of K-pop is the resolve of the stars. They work through starvation, over exhaustion, sexual harassment, etc. and remain more humble and hard-working than the average American celebrity.
