Why are Kpop stars less Authentic than Western pop stars?
Is it because they don't really have a say in what kind of music they make?
Is it because they are assigned personalities and expected to play it up (Cute, funny, Swaggy, Sexy, etc) even if it doesn't come naturally?
Is it because they have no real life experiences since they were isolated from the world and forced to train since the age of 10?
Is it because the culture is still conservative so you know they ain't about that life for real?
They're really not. The trainee system present in SK definitely manufactures everything and gives each group a specific brand/niche to play up, but that's no different from what Western artists try to push with their music/images anyways. In terms of getting a say in the production of their music, a lot of idols eventually get the chance to write and produce when they're established, Big Bang for instance.

Yep, they can't even date until a certain amount of years.
I remember reading an article where they shaved off a girl's hair because she got caught leaving her boyfriend's house and made her make a public apology
they get trained for years. like not just normal training they are trained intensely for years before they are released to the market which makes them seem too perfect. They also have little to no say about the music they will sing or the visuals they will deliver. that is usually up to their labels. Some groups and acts have control though and they are doing great stuff but yeah...
