I mean, the whole article is about having the visual match the music and extend what MVs usually are. And he's running around talking about short films. Well bruh, Lana wasn't the first damn person to make a short film if we're going that route. Like, go have a seat somewhere.
And if we want to be technical about who did what first and on a big scale, I need to refer them to Usher's Confessions min-movie (which slayed BTW) that aired on CBS or ABC.

girl shut up, you literally just came in here to say Bey didn't do it first. Furthermore, let's go back to the quote

how would the work be examined as a conceptual whole if all of the songs off the EP aren't on there ???????????????????????? it is a short film, not visual album. the article is largely discussing visual albums. that is not what Paradiso is.

It seems like you're triggered by the smallest ounce of criticism. Grow up.

Eh. This is something that only established artists have the luxury of doing. I don't think a full movie weakens a classic music video. Especially when a classic video is a lot more attainable. As far as impact goes... not enough time has passed to judge wether it IS simply a trend or an option that all artist will get. Like no one but MJ fans are perched to watch "Moonwalker" but I'm sure it was groundbreaking in its day.

But has the nerve to sit around and tell us we're missing the point. Lana wasn't even the first person to do what he's trying to claim wasn't done first by Bey. What even?

And, yes, the article mentions short films/mini-movies. Read it again...more carefully this time.

Yes, I obviously stated that she didn't release a short film first, but I followed it up with a reason. Lana's album was incredibly successful, so it's likely that she served as inspiration to others...maybe Beyonce herself. I don't believe one person alone is responsible for this trend.
You don't need ALL the songs in full from an album to be featured on a short film for an audience to examine the work conceptually as a whole. The short film and album have an interwoven theme, and if you're not completely brainless, you can piece together the story/meaning/idea/concept.
And I believe I'm having a pretty calm discussion, so I'm not exactly sure how I seem like I'm about to have a temper tantrum?

Yeh I agree she was probs inspired by Lana. I know self titled even used the same font. But she did raise the bar for pop girls. Not so much the alternative artists she copies.

any artist could do it, they just need to have the coin, the concept and album that is actually cohesive enough to fit a story line.

Short is a synonym for mini. You realize this, right? Are you going to try to argue semantics?

by this logic, the music video for G.U.Y. is essentially the visual album for the entire Artpop era. i would have never known !! thanks for coming thru with ur amazing and eye opening insight

That is not what this article is saying, so you mentioning Lana and short films is irrelevant. People have done short films before Lana, and its only safe to assume that a woman who was releasing video anthologies on her second album and then moved on to releasing full videos for all the songs on her album by her fifth album, would only naturally progress to releasing a complete conceptual visual album by her sixth album, something Lana has NEVER done.

Clearly ARTPOP was a broken concept, and Tropico featured more than ONE song. You're really trying to be snarky for no reason, lol.

This is the answer to that "why is everyone flopping" thread.
Beyonce raised the bar so high that now every artist is struggling to serve what the GP wants and expects. Lemonade and Beyonce are the standard, less than that won't be accepted.
