It's kind of different where I live cause even our right-wing party is fairly liberal on LGBT/Women's rights and stuff like that but it still really irks me when I find out people vote Conservative because their economic policies punish the poor and the disabled (and a lot of time they affect women & certain ethnic minorities more).
I don't buy into the whole 'socially liberal but fiscally conservative' thing because right-wing economic policies hurt the same people your socially liberal views support. |

Conservative economic policies directly hurt the poor, disabled and many racial minorities - gay racial minorities hit even harder.
To me, I rather deal with a bigoted Republican than a "fiscally conservative" Republican. At least the former accepts and acknowledges how their policies actively hurt folks, yet the latter will tell you you're just lazy or genuinely, honestly can't imagine that people go through worse hardships than them, or acknowledge that we need to focus on economic equity and giving everyone equal footing. So many think the way circumstances are handed out is part of the natural order of life and that people living in deadly poverty is just a sign of the economy working. Those people scare me so much.
