Turkmenistan. It's beautiful country and it's so sad that only like one thousand people have visited it last year

Omg tragic, they just built a new airport too! This link said they had a little over 105,000 tourists though. Isn't Turkmenistan run by a dictator though? I know one of the Central Asian states is, and it isn't Uzbekistan or Kyrgyz Republic

Pretty much all of them are.
Uzbekistan's only President since independence died earlier this month - Uzbekistan is 100% a dictatorship

I've only been to Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the one I liked the most was Estonia, very closely followed by Lithuania. Latvia lacks an identity in my opinion, too many Russians live there to the point that in the capital they outnumber the ethnic Latvians. Russia has its charm but it's badly kept in a lot of areas - the countrysides around St. Petersburg are creepily boring.
I'd love to visit Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan!

I'd love to see Tallinn's Old Town, it looks beautiful in photos! One of my friends is Latvian and spent the whole summer there, and I think she would agree with you. It looked very pretty from the pictures she sent, but there isn't much going on there.
Personally, seeing the Maidan in Kiev is on my bucket list. I would also love to spend a week at the Ibiza Club in Odessa, so I definitely will go to Ukraine in the future. I'd also love to see Moscow for obvious reasons. But when I go to Russia (whenever that is), I would love to see the Church of All Saints in Ekaterinburg. It was built on the site of the Ipatiev House where the Romanov family was brutally murdered by the Bolsheviks. I need to learn Russian so I can get the most out of exploring the country!

I LOVE all these countries. I find them enigmatic and mysterious, specially the ones on central Asia. I've just read the article of the airport and I loved it, the sovietic and dictatorial architecture it's so attractive to me, I can spend hours searching about these things. Thank you for starting this thread!
OP: I've never been to any of these countries, so I can't vote

Tallinn is my favorite city in the world along with Prague and Istanbul. Such a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. Taking a walk from the port to the hill where part of the city center is was so beautiful
Riga also has a very beautiful historical center, but it's small and you see everything you need to see in 1 day. I went there a few years ago and again this year for a one-day trip from Vilnius. Stunning atmosphere, but Latvia doesn't have much more to offer than Riga, Rundāle Palace and Jūrmala.
As for Vilnius, the city center is relatively huge and you need more 2-3 days to see it thoroughly. Yet again, a relaxing atmosphere. It feels more like a capital than the other two and the Cathedral Square at sunset is one of the best views I've ever had.
I'd love to visit Kiev, it's halfway between a historical center and post-Soviet city architecture wise. And I'd love to see Chernobyl! They're all very interesting places, I'm actually planning a roadtrip in Georgia and Armenia with a friend for next summer.

I feel the same way as you! I'm obsessed with the Eastern Bloc, yet I haven't been to any of these countries. For me, I think the attraction stems from the fact that for so long, the Western world was told not to trust these countries and it was drilled into us that they're the enemy. Even today, we still see some propaganda (whether it's justified or not depends on who you ask). So they do have that mysterious edge to them, and such a rich culture and history that it's hard not to get obsessed

If all goes according to plan, I will be studying in Prague in the Spring I honestly don't know that much about the Baltic states besides Estonia, so it's interesting to hear the point of view from someone who has been to their capitals. I forgot to mention Chernobyl, I would love to go exploring. There's so much to see, ugh. Eastern Europe is definitely underrated, as far as things to see and do go.

I've been to other places in Lithuania as well as the capital and let me tell you, it's another world. If Vilnius is the international city with students of all nationalities and where everyone speaks English, Kaunas, the 2nd largest city of the country, is a totally different world. It isn't neglected at all (several buildings are under reconstruction currently), but it'll be hard to find someone who speaks decent English. Russian was the only way for me there, and I only know very basic stuff. I assume the same goes for Latvia and Estonia.
