Glitter was actually a big improvement on Rainbow. All My Life, Didn't Mean To Turn You On The level of primary color boppage
I was initially drawn to the Glitter era for its sizzle and sparkle, but it's so much more than just a fluffy-but-fabulous camp classic. It has heart! There are some really touching ballads and midtempos (Lead The Way, Never Too Far) to go along with all of those bops.
Rainbow (for better or worse) is where everything associated with the modern Mariah was really cemented. The antics, the persona, the overt and forced sexuality, the decline etc. It's oddly one of the most defining eras in her career because of it.
And she's made this album once again (E=mc^2) and she's probably making that same album right now as she always follows up her heavy albums with a lighter one.
