"Carpool Karaoke" won the Emmy for Variety Special, thanks to a special primetime edition, that aired March 29, which repackaged some of the segments greatest hits, including appearances from Adele and Elton John, along with new footage from Corden's karaoke session with Jennifer Lopez.
This doesn't mean anything in this case. The Emmys are not like the Teen Choice Awards, where you win if you attend. Every nominee gets a personal invitation, cause they want as many nominees as possible in the show to show their faces (and not some pictures) when they announce the winner.
Interesting because Adele won't be in attendance nor are there articles or rumors about the EMMYs inviting her to attend.
