I love Migrate but it is rather dark in sound. I have always loved TMB to death and it was perfect as the lead because it was sexy yet funny and light-hearted.

Migrate should have been the second single though.

I think they look back at her legacy and see how well ballads have done for her, but that doesn't automatically translate to success in the modern market. If YDKWTD followed #B instead of YME, it probably would have done better than YME did

I kinda agree. YDKWTD is kinda midtempo so it could've worked. I also think that maybe Cry could've worked since John Legend's All of Me made it to #1 that year so Cry may have been something.

YDKWTD was one of the poppiest songs she had done in in years and it was a really really great tune. I am really stung to this very day that it was treated the way it was.

Cry, on the other hand, is a great song but would never have worked as a commercial single. AOM is a sappy (I mean really, I can't get through this cheesefest, maybe Mariah could have sung this in 1994) but it's catchy.

They should have made YDKWTD the official lead single of MIAM. For a european follow up they had Meteorite in store, the US maybe would have taken better to YM(E) after a hit single.

MIAMTEC era would be much more successful if she didn't have an accident filming #B remix, or if she made the #B remix vid first before #Hermosa

Besides the accident, if she had just released on the day she first said it would come out in that summer 13, the sales would have definitely risen #Beautiful to the top 10 and she could afford to release another single.

Mariah said upon the release of the album that the accident gave her time to reflect on the songs she'd recorded, and she realized how downcast a lot of it was. So she took the time to make a few more festive moments. I'm very curious about the album's original incarnation, and what might have been left off in favor of some of the newer material, whatever that newer material may be.

I'm reading the Butterfly-->Rainbow thread and it just reaffirms that the GP sees Rainbow as a cute lil album, probably because of its singles, Seatbreaker, etc, whereas the #lambily is divided over it

We'd have gotten "Get You Off My Mind" instead of You're Mine ('I can't seem to get you off my mind' lowkey sounds like a bop tbh) and maybe more of those orchestra sounds for Make It Look Good

Agreed! I would like a uptempo followed by uptempo era. People love Mariah when she does campy pop/R&B. Might as well try that instead of the typical WBT stuff.
