Ivanka Trump refused to acknowledge the anti-gay nature of her father’s newly proposed child care and maternity leave policies during an interview with Cosmopolitan this week.
Asked several times to clarify whether the new plan, which offers new mothers six weeks of paid maternity leave after giving birth, would also apply to same-sex couples where both parents were men, the 34-year-old businesswoman all but confirmed it would not.
Moments later, Trump walked out of the interview early, citing the interviewer’s “negative” tone during additional questions about Donald Trump’s previous disparaging comments about women.
Asked if she believed same-sex couples not being entitled to maternity or paternity leave could be seen as an equality issue, Trump repeatedly referred back to “the mother” of said child, refusing to state the obvious— that two men who have a child together simply wouldn’t be eligible to receive maternity or paternity leave under a Trump administration.
During the interview, Trump dodged the direct question a total of three more times:
Quote:
Cosmopolitan: OK, so when it comes to same-sex—

Ivanka Trump: So it’s meant to benefit, whether it’s in same-sex marriages as well, to benefit the mother who has given birth to the child if they have legal married status under the tax code.
Quote:
Cosmopolitan: Well, what about gay couples, where both partners are men?
Quote:
Ivanka: The policy is fleshed out online, so you can go see all the elements of it. But the original intention of the plan is to help mothers in recovery in the immediate aftermath of childbirth.
Quote:
Cosmopolitan: So I just want to be clear that, for same-sex adoption, where the two parents are both men, they would not be receiving special leave for that because they don’t need to recover or anything?
Quote:
Ivanka: Well, those are your words, not mine. [Laughs.] Those are your words. The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not.

Ivanka ultimately left the interview after a few more probing questions about her father’s past comments, telling the interviewer “I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions.”
It's getting to the point where, aside from the taxes issues, people are running out of things to pin Trump with so they're bizarrely gunning for surrogates and family members to "slip up" and say the wrong thing. I'm sure she didn't come in there to answer those types of questions.
well the question was stupid. no, men don't have to recover from giving a birth, when they adopt a baby, christ. there are its own rules and laws when it comes to adoption, that are trying to help the new parents, whether it's a same sex couple or not. but this topic wasn't part of this obviously.

She was specifically put in charge of the child care policy for her father's platform. If she can't answer simple questions like this then that tells you a lot of what you need to know about Trump's campaign on paid family leave.

So family members and surrogates who go to promote their father who's running for office shouldn't be asked about his policies?
You walk out of an interview that means you lost. It means you couldn't take tough questions. Obama never walked out of an interview even when he was on Fox News taking questions from people who were trashing him daily.

Honestly, all she needed to say is "we are currently working on something where same sex couple that are male will get to have time off to be with their child", ta-da, and we move on. What she did was repeat the same thing she said before which lead the interviewer to believe she wasn't doing anything for same sex couples that are male.
The stuff about her dad, I understand why she would do it, but it is the name of the game and the reason why Chelsea Clinton has been nothing but a recluse for most of her life.
The journalist should not have done that. Clearly there's not an answer to that question and the viewers already know. But then again, Ivanka was dumb not to have an all-inclusive answer.
