Queen of Pop had an interview with Vogue where she explains everything related to her career and the new album Dama de Madera:
Where did the name for the new album, Lady Wood, come from?
It’s really funny because here people know that [phrase], but in Europe they don’t. U.K. maybe, but like in Germany, they think I’ve created some new word. When you want someone to be brave, you say “grow some balls.” She’s a chick with balls. It’s almost like saying, “Don’t be a *****.” Sweden is very equal between the genders compared to other places. We still have a long way to go, but it’s still way more than here and a lot of countries in Europe and Australia. But I felt like I was getting asked all these questions because I’m a girl. Like, “Don’t you feel like you should be a better role model?” Or “Don’t you feel like you shouldn’t be talking about this? You’re so open about sex. Isn’t that a bad example?” And I think the opposite. I think it’s a good thing.
And they wouldn’t be saying that to a guy.
Never! Never. Never, ever. It would be insulting to ask a guy that. Which it is to a girl as well. I just remember defending myself in a lot of situations where I was wondering, “Why am I defending myself? I shouldn’t have to make a case about this.” To me, music and sex are very connected. I’m a very sexual person—not meaning I have sex all the time, but it’s like, I express myself with my body onstage and off. It’s a very beautiful, powerful thing. It’s kind of like saying a chick with balls, but since we don’t have balls, it’s lady wood. Things that kind of terrify me and turn me on at the same time. This album is all about ****ing rushes, chasing rushes, and all of the different stages you go through, whether it’s drugs or an adrenaline rush, maybe love, or even getting onstage, falling for someone, taking the first hit, whatever it is. This album is just all of those stages. My whole life is always about chasing that “I’m ****ing alive” feeling.
