That and her Falling Into You or Let's Talk About Love CD, which also included the song. Those two albums were in the T2 forever. They only released the single here, and as someone before me said only 700k, so it could hit #1 in the world's biggest market. This song set the audience record at that time (when HRS only included Top 40, HAC, AC, Alternative, and Rhythmic), with close to 120 million impressions. Considering how much less songs were played 18 years ago, and the much smaller panel of stations counting toward the Hot 100 (MHWGO hit #1 at Latin but those impressions didn't count at that time), 120 million impressions was amazing.

The fact that each of these albums sold 30m+ WW. She basically sold 90m albums in only 2-3 years.

True, but basically EVERYONE bought the soundtrack just because of her one song, as the rest of the soundtrack was filled with instrumentals from unknown artists. If they had released the single a few weeks earlier and made 3 million copies instead of 700k it would've still had a rather brief chart run, but like I Will Always Love You and Candle In The Wind 1997 MHWGO would've had the power to rank as #1 for 1998.

MHWGO is the only vocal song on the soundtrack and the song wasn't available for purchase individually. You do the math.

In 1998, The Boy Is Mine sold 2.6 million, Too Close sold 2.1 million, and You're Still The One sold 2.0 million. With 3 million singles, MYWGO would've easily topped those songs, and an earlier release would've meant much more of its airplay would've counted for the YE H 100. I still think the 3 million singles would've sold out pretty fast, but nonetheless airplay would've kept it alive. I think MHWGO's run on the Hot Singles Sales Chart was 1-1-9-29-65-71 or something like that, with over 1/2 the copies sold in just the 1st wk, so those 700k singles sold out super fast.
