This makes sense. Since gays generally can't have kids until they've planned, it makes sense that decision tends to come when we're financially stable, often having finished school and gotten into the career of our choosing, and know they can afford to add childcare to their budget. Having kids is one of those things we're not supposed to admit is ever an unpleasant thing, but yeah it literally ruins your life if you don't have a stable career or extremely wealthy spouse. Not to mention, we also have to literally pay for the surrogate, if that's the way we choose to have the child.
The only lesbian couple I know irl had children at a young age (biologically) from a previous straight relationship. I'm assuming lesbians are more likely to have children at a young age than gay men, and both are less likely than straights (who often just wind up knocked up and decide to have the child before they're financially ready due to being in love, not believing in abortion, etc). So that explains why gay men > lesbians > straights in terms of finance, it's just an inverse relationship to the likelihood of having kids.
As an aside, as a gay man I feel pressure to start earning 100k+ yearly, due to the fact that I won't be relying on a household with dual income any time soon. Additionally, once I do settle down, I'll want to be able to live in an environment which is relatively gay-friendly and where I can hold my husband's hand or take our children to school without getting verbally/physically harassed. It just so happens that affluent areas tend to be more gay friendly, so I am personally pursuing jobs with 6 figure incomes to be able to afford that lifestyle
