A 17-year-old faces murder charges for shooting dead both his parents after they tried to discipline him for throwing a party in their absence, police said.
Jesse Madison Holton, of Eclectic, Alabama, was charged as an adult with one count of first degree murder for the death of his father Mike Holton, a former mayor of the town who died in their home on Sunday from a gunshot wound to the head.
Jesse will face additional charges after his mother April Holton also suffered a head wound and died in the hospital on Monday, police said.
Investigators arrested Jesse after the evidence did not support his claims that Mike shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Mike and April, both 37, returned home on Sunday to find evidence of a marijuana pipe in their home, which had been trashed from a party the night before, Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said.
It is unclear why Mike owned handcuffs, but he restrained his own son and called the sheriff's department around 4pm.
'They obviously were trying to discipline their son, and they had had problems with him in the past,' Franklin said.
Mike said he would sign a juvenile warrant against his son the next day, and the deputy left on another call after collecting some evidence from the party.

The youth, a senior at Elmore County High School, told detectives he gets 'easily agitated' if he doesn't have access to marijuana and Adderall, Franklin said, and witnesses told investigators the teen has anger problems.
'We are dealing with young man with a history of emotional trouble,' Franklin told the Montgomery Advertiser.
'He hasn't shown any emotion at all. Most people would be bawling their eyes out if their parents had been killed,' said Franklin.
The couple's two younger children are with relatives, said Franklin.
