It was a risky move in its own way for her to go full on pop and abandon a fanbase as unaccepting of something like that as Country fans, who made her career what it was to that point. She's definitely ambitious and cares about her music being received well, she's never really released something that wasn't, but I wouldn't say the charts are her main concern.

Taylor was brought up by the OP, nothing I said was aimed at her specifically. Max and Joseph are like the go to people for pop girls who want hits, that is why I named them. My point was that not caring about charts and releasing music you want is far more risky and will land you way more backlash then releasing music that you know people will like. Worst thing happens when releasing trendy, radio friendly PG 13 song is that it gets overlooked in favour of another. It will never result in being banned from different countries or massive hate

What we should be concerned about is not popstars caring or not about charts, but popstars caring or not about their musicianship, artistry and passion

If you don't care. You sit back and let it do what it do.
Some of the g3rls just pretend not to care so they can downplay the bad results.

Ikr. It's ridiculous that they want people to hear and appreciate something they put their heart and soul into. In fact, they should just not release that music if they don't care about the charts and keep it locked in their basement.

Which is why using those people is not indicative of challenging yourself. You're going with the flow.

You don't need the charts for people to hear your music though.

No, but you need to perform it in front of people and you need it to be played on radio. Hate to break this to you but nobody will call these artists home numbers and ask them if they recorded some material

Thank youuu.
They're so far down the rabbit hole they can't even comprehend the notion of creating from a point of passion and wanting to share the results as many people as possible. By their logic, no one should share their creations with the world.
I mean, what reason would a chef want you to try their food if there's no possibility of a Michelin star involved..... right?

That's because she was being fake when she claimed not to care about charts and that was beyond transparent. Only a selected few artists can be above chart success and pull it off.

You know the list of artists doesn't end with whoever had a top 10 right?
There are hundreds of artists/bands that have never had a top 40 hit and are playing all around the world, having a fanbase and living off of their music.
If you truly 'don't care about the charts' you don't go out of your way to go on radio tours etc, people will find your music anyway.

And they lack the ability to even ponder such a concept, which is much sadder.

That's what touring is for. I said what I said. Don't pretend you don't care or check for the charts while playing all the industry politics to get your music in heavy rotation.

You only say this if you're not doing well. Who doesn't want their music to be appreciated by the masses? Especially when you've gotten a taste of what it's like?
And have you heard artists who are absolutely dominating the charts ever go, "lol idgaf about the charts "
edit: Yeah and like dabunique said below, have you heard stans of artists who are doing well on the charts go, "lol who cares about how it's selling??"

Wanting to get your song played on the radio is NOT synonymous with caring about charts. It's just that you can't separate the two.
Thinks about it this way: If all of a sudden billboard went under and no charts replaced them, and music was just a free for all without stats, would many artists still want to be played on the radio? According to you, they wouldn't, because, according to you, radio is solely for the charts.
God forbid a musician just actually want people to jam out to their music. Such a novel, foreign concept I guess.

Take these off-topic, inaccurate assumptions elsewhere
My faves literally do not chart (Lana + a slew of DJ's), nor do I care who charts.
