Updated the OP to include more contenders in the acting categories, and updated the second post to include info on a bunch more films. Also note that films already available (in theatres or on disc) have been distinguished (in case anyone is looking for something to watch!).
So, I think that there will be 5-10 African American nominees in the acting categories this year, which will be utterly historic.
Most likely: Davis / Negga / Washington / Holland / Harris
Other strong contenders: Hammer / Ali / King / Adepo / Parker / Spencer
But the backlash if/when all of them are beaten by white actors will be insane... Especially if Viola loses.

Only if it's Viola being beaten by an undeserving performance like Streep's Iron Lady. The other black actresses won't make it in probably even if they put out great performances since the Academy loves their "token black" nominees and then go for silly, mediocre impersonation acts like Streep's Thatcher and Portman's Jackie. Viola will have the best performance of all of the Best Actress nominees anyways. She's one of the greats that needs to be rewarded.
^^ You havent even seen Jackie but you are already fuming Natalie her power Neither did Viola's (idc if you have seen the play the movie is what matters) so it is a case of fanboyism gone wrong
Jesus, now we add Natalie to the list of possible nominees? This season is already more interesting than the last one.
Went to see Sully yesterday. The movie was good, but not great or amazing. Hanks though was both of these things, as he usually is. Wouldn't mind another nomination for him, but he's unlikely to win anyway, so maybe give that opportunity to some other actor who shines in his movie.
Does anyone consider Collateral Beauty for anything? It looks interesting. Maybe another nomination for Will?
Oh and yeah, the Fanning sisters are a force to reckon with. Both choose right movies, interesting characters...In 5 years they'll probably be fighting against each other for Best Actress.
Neon Demon has a shot at cinematography but other than that? Nah.
Hidden Figures looks amazing but not dramatic enough for Oscars, I guess. The Big Short last year tho...
Elle Fanning's 70+s on MC: Super 8.
Dakota's: Night Moves, War of the Worlds.
Not exactly amazing track records.
I mean, Queen Saoirse is Dakota's age and has BP nominee Atonement, BP nominee Grand Budapest Hotel, and BP nominee Brooklyn.
When she was 22, even Shailene had The Spectacular Now and BP nominee Descendants.

Saoirse is far better than them. She should have won last year.

Scott Feinberg from THR has Kate Winslet in his #3 position for Best Supporting Actress...QUEEN
I LOVE LOVE LOVE natlie but that clip from Jackie didn't do much for me. Like I feel like she has fallen a bit off after Black Swan. I would love for her to win though.

ew no, Cate Blanchett should've won

honey you dont know how the oscars work then obviously
I have this deep-set fear that we're going to spend the next 20 years watching her get nothing.
Only three actresses have won 3 Oscars (Hepburn, Bergman, Streep) and all of them had 30+ years between their first win and their third. Cate won her first 12 years ago.
I feel like Cate could break this trend, though. I hope. My all time fave.
